Dallas more progressive than outsiders perceive

Jacquielynn Floyd argues that although Dallas is perceived to be an ultra-conservative, close-minded city, in actuality Dallas has been electing progressive voices, women, minorities, and gays for years.  Floyd notes that Dallas is as diverse as any other big city, although the rest of the country has yet to catch on to that notion.  If openly gay City Councilman Ed Oakley becomes the next Mayor of Dallas, it will exemplify just how progressive Dallas actually is.
