Thanks to funding from the David Bohnett Foundation, the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute
has grown its collaboration Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government to offer the Senior Executives
in State and Local Government program to leaders from the LGBT
community. The program, which has been in existence since 2001, gets its funding from a $500,000 grant that the Bohnett foundation has sponsored. The program, now called the David Bohnett Gay & Lesbian Leadership Fellow, is designed primarily
for senior-level executives from state, county and local governments, and their
elected counterparts. Executives who work with state and local governments -
including nonprofit organizations and national associations - find the program
extremely valuable as well.
Because the participants' professional
expertise and experience is critical to the learning process, each session’s
members are selected to reflect a broad spectrum of functional responsibilities
and levels of government, as well as geographical diversity. The Leadership Institute provides scholarships that help meet
the costs of the program to those LGBT individuals who have already been accepted by the Kennedy School.
